Hammond Preserve
In March 2007, the Town of Bow made a significant acquisition by purchasing 139 acres from Paul Hammond, a cherished longtime resident. The parcel, situated on Dunbarton Center Road, had been held by the Hammond Family for many years. Demonstrating his commitment to the community, Paul Hammond sold the property to the Town at a reduced price and generously donated a substantial portion of its market value.
To facilitate the purchase, the Town bonded a significant portion of the price, with the Conservation Commission’s Land Use Change Tax receipts playing a crucial role in covering the bond payments. In May 2007, a Declaration of Conservation and Preservation Restrictions Agreement was implemented, preserving the majority of the 139 acres.
Bow Open Spaces has entered into a stewardship agreement with the Town, undertaking the responsibility of annually monitoring the property and providing the Selectboard with a comprehensive annual report. The landscape boasts a captivating field, meticulously maintained by the Town, complemented by hiking trails diligently looked after by Bow Open Spaces. Additionally, the Boy Scouts have established and maintain a camping area situated just behind the field.
The property features a scenic field, rolling hills, streams, and wetlands, creating a diverse and picturesque environment. We invite you to explore and appreciate this beautiful property, expressing gratitude for Paul Hammond’s remarkable gift to the Town.
